There is a regular programme of Junior Club Competitions throughout the year, with the winner in all cases receiving a trophy, which they have presented to them on our annual Junior Presentation Night held in November. The format is Stableford for the majority of the competitions with the exception of the Centenary Medal, and the 36 Hole Junior Club Championships. These two competitions are decided by Strokeplay, with the winners again receiving a trophy to recognise their achievement whilst additionally having their name added to the Honours Boards in the Clubhouse.
In addition to the regular programme of Junior Club Competitions there are opportunities to play in a series of Fun events and representative matches through the year. In April a team of juniors contest the Intersection Plate against teams from the Men’s, Ladies and Veterans Sections, then in August there is the annual friendly match against the Club Committee. In September the juniors split into two teams (Europe v USA) to contest the Junior Ryder Cup, mimicking the format of the main event; this is followed at the end of the month with a keenly fought match against the Hampshire U14 & U16 teams. Finally in October, junior members get a chance to team up with a parent, relative or other adult to contest the popular Generation 4 Ball event.
Barton-on-Sea Juniors are active participants in the Hampshire Junior League (HJL) and Hampshire Junior Academy League (HJAL) competing on a Home and Away basis against other clubs in the County. The HJL is aimed at those with a Club handicap of below 28 (boys) or below 36 (girls). The winners of the HJL can progress further through regional stage qualifiers and, if successful, compete in the finals held annually in Portugal.
The HJAL is a league aimed at learner level players and is competed over a 9 hole shortened course with a maximum handicap of 54. The emphasis of the HJAL is for the youngsters to have fun whilst also experiencing competitive golf for the first time. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children at these matches.
The ultimate Junior Interclub challenge is the Hampshire Green Jackets. This competition involves teams of 3 players per club and is played on a knockout basis and open to all affiliated golf clubs in Hampshire and the Channel Islands.
